About the Opportunity
Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS) is looking for a Local Link Education & Project Officer based in Alice Springs, NT.
This is an 18-month, full-time position (subject to funding), with part-time hours also considered.
Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Education (Project Lead), you will join a growing Education Team delivering Local Link, a pilot program that builds the capacity of primary health care workers to identify and respond to disclosures of DFSV and child sexual abuse (CSA). Working in partnership with GPs, nurses, remote clinics and family support teams, CAWLS has already engaged more than 20 services and is now taking training to remote communities, so you’ll enjoy regular remote trips across the region alongside a CAWLS lawyer.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Consult with partner services to understand their DFSV training needs
- Develop and deliver tailored, ongoing DFSV and CSA training for primary health care providers
- Build and formalise partnerships with GP clinics, remote clinics and allied health providers
- Review and strengthen partners’ policies, procedures and referral pathways, or help create them from scratch
- Create training content, including lesson plans, presentations and e-learning materials
- Coordinate remote training trips and legal clinics alongside CAWLS lawyers
- Map local services and maintain an up-to-date referral database
- Help shape a secondary consultation service for partner services
- Help facilitate a workforce advisory group for frontline health workers, as well as lived experience groups
- Evaluate the Local Link pilot by collecting qualitative and quantitative data

About You
To qualify, you will need a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent, and/or significant experience designing and delivering adult group training, with hands-on facilitation experience valued just as highly as formal qualifications. You will also bring a demonstrated understanding of domestic, family and sexual violence and its impact on women and children, experience developing e-learning, and an understanding of cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Frontline DFSV experience, such as working in a women’s shelter or specialist DFSV service
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, including an understanding of the ongoing impact of colonisation
- Experience living or working in remote areas, including remote travel
- Experience delivering training to the health sector
- Familiarity with the NT DFSV Risk Assessment and Management Framework
- An understanding of both the health and legal sectors
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
As our ideal candidate, you are a warm, collaborative facilitator who walks alongside learners and makes every session a shared learning experience, and you can adapt your approach from a room of GPs in Alice Springs to Aboriginal health practitioners in a remote clinic. You’re proactive and enjoy project work where every day looks different, comfortable generating your own work while staying connected to your team, and deeply committed to reducing barriers to justice for women and children. You also understand the importance of reflection and self-care in this line of work.
This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to systems change in health and community care and help frontline services better support those experiencing violence and abuse.
Please Note: This is a female-identified position under Sections 30 and 34 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984. You must also hold (or be eligible to obtain) a current NT Driver’s Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check.
Perks & Benefits
You will receive a competitive salary plus 12% Super (commensurate with qualifications and experience), along with a great host of benefits, including:
- Relocation Assistance for interstate candidates
- Travel Allowance for overnight trips
- Six Weeks' Annual Leave + 12 Days Personal/Carer's Leave
- Generous Salary Sacrificing Options
- Opportunities to attend Interstate Conferences
- Opportunities to co-facilitate alongside experienced trainers as you settle into the role
- Excellent training and professional development opportunities
- Time-Off in Lieu (TOIL) for occasional out-of-hours work
- A supportive workplace dedicated to employee wellbeing and resilience
